Bay Leaf bunched herbs have a distinct taste that can be used in dishes to add heat and spice. In addition, they also add depth by enhancing the savoury elements of a dish. Bay leaves do not soften when cooked, so they’re often added into water when boiling rice to add flavour. Then removed before serving, as they can be abrasive for digestion. Crushed leaves impart more flavour than whole, yet they should be applied within a tea infuser or cheese cloth. This herb also has an aesthetic appeal which is often why it’s used in a variety of dishes.

Taste: The Bay Leaf is considered to have a very mild taste, often used as a supporting leaf to bring out the flavour in other herbs used. It is best to use this bunched herb in conjunction with other herbs, to create slightly minty flavour.
