George Powles

My name is George Powles, I have been a Chef for 6 Years. My career first started at Delia’s Canary Catering. I started at 15 as a match day chef and then I was offered an apprenticeship at Norwich City College to pursue my passion in cooking. I studied NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 in Professional Cookery.

To complete this, I worked full time in Yellows Restaurant doing Starters and Desserts and I also worked in Delia’s flagship Restaurant with my Head Chef Nigel Ramsbottom guiding me along the way.

After three and a half years at the Restaurant I chose to leave and move further afield. I was lucky enough that Nigel, my head chef at the time, was good friends with Bruce Wass who has a Gastro Pub in East Sussex called The Jolly Sportsman. I worked and lived here for 9 months.

In March 2016 I returned to Norwich and obtained my job at Brasteds Restaurant. Here, I started as a Chef de Partie in the restaurant. I have now been at Brasteds for nearly two years and alongside Meg Greenacre we are writing menus and producing some lovely food. It’s amazing to be able to have this opportunity and I am really enjoying my time here.
