Taste: Apple Blossom is a very versatile flower and slightly more robust than some of our other edible flowers. The petals and stem both have highly aromatic tart apple and citrus-sour flavour, with hints of honeysuckle. Many chefs use Begonias to replace rhubarb, because there is a slight sweetness to them both.

Uses: Begonias can be used to garnish many desserts such as, brownies, sponges and biscuits. The petals also be used to add a sharp citrus flavour to many fine dining dishes, including seafood. Alternatively, steep Apple Blossom in hot water to make tea, jelly, aromatic vodka, or cordial. Produce Business UK suggests infusing whipped cream or ice cream with the petals to go over an apple tart or floating the blossoms in a fruit punch. Others recommend using them as ingredients in scallops, meat and seafood dishes, as their acidity offsets the richness.

Health Benefits: Apple Blossom is extremely high in antioxidants and vitamin C. Begonia sap is anti-bacterial and has been used to treat wounds, toothaches and fight coughs. A tea of dried Apple Blossom edible flowers is also said to act as a stress reliever.
