Taste: Dianthus flowers are also known by the name Sweet William. They possess a sweet to spicy aroma and flavour, similar to that of cloves. The Flower Deli refers to this as a 'spicy sweetness'. It is important to note that their sweetness comes from the flowers petals, and they have a slightly longer, thicker stem which can be bitter in flavour.

Uses: With a sweet aroma, Dianthus are great to use on cakes, desserts and summer drinks. Try floating the whole flower on summer punches and cocktails, or press into buttercream topped cupcakes. As well as a sweet garnish, the petals from the Dianthus flower can also be used to garnish savoury courses. The petals can be pulled off the flower and used to toss through salads. Just like a salad garnish, the petals from the edible flower can also be used to dress savoury canap├ęs and starters.
