Banana Leaves have a wide variety of culinary uses because they are large, flexible, waterproof and extremely decorative. In Thai cuisine, they are used for cooking, wrapping and as a serving plate. Banana edible leaves have become an extremely popular cooking tool and are not commonly eaten. Furthermore, they are used as waterproof wrapping to add flavour to a variety of ingredients. The Spruce Eats notes that Banana Leaves can be used for baking or cooking anything ‘wrapped’ in the same way you would use tin foil or parchment paper. This will add a subtle sweetness to your foods. Besides boiling or baking in them, you can use the leaf as a ‘mat’. This will add a pleasant smoky flavour to your BBQ seafood and meats.
